Have you ever participated in the Hardest Cider Run? How about joining me for the 2017 Hardest Cider Run?
I haven’t had the privilege yet either, but I’ll be there on Saturday, August 5th, 2017 in Bigerville, PA. The 5K will be held at Hauser Estate Winery, home of Jack’s Hard Cider.
Get this – the Hauser course is the HARDEST course in the Hard Cider Run series. We can expect “varying terrains, sloped vineyards, and, of course, ‘The Hill’,” according to their website. Sounds like a fun challenge to me on a Saturday morning!
Oh, I forgot to mention that you can choose between the Standard 5K or the Hungry Apple 5K options. The first one comes without donuts and the second one comes with donuts … at every mile. So, hey, the Hungry Apple option is a great idea especially if you decide to walk part of the course. Get a little sustenance as you continue on the trail!
Well, I got the preliminaries out of the way. Allow me to give you the highlights of why you want to join me if you’re in the Biglerville, PA area.

2017 Hardest Cider Run in Biglerville, PA: 5 Reasons You Can’t Miss It
You actually get hard cider at the end of the race.
I suppose it wouldn’t be called the Hardest Cider Run if you didn’t receive some hard cider at the end.
Now, I haven’t sampled Jack’s Hard Cider before, but I have been to Hauser Estate Winery. My in-laws have lived in the area for decades and my wife and I moved to Gettysburg (not that far away) in 2016.
If my experience with Hauser’s wine is any indication, you’re going to be very glad you have that ice cold cider waiting for you at the finish line. Heck, you’re there anyway – might as well buy some to take with you!
You get cool Hard Cider Run swag and a finisher’s medal.

A shirt, free glass, a medal, and free pics? Seriously, that’s worth it alone. Plus, did I mention the hard cider?
And these days, free parking is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, I’ll raise my free glass full of hard cider to that one!
You can eat donuts at every mile (your choice).
This is good to know in advance so you don’t need to worry about breakfast. Just wash it down with some hard cider at the end.
However, this begs the question … why don’t they have a third race option? Donuts AND hard cider at every mile! Now that would interesting!
You get to run a 5K in a winery.
Yep, that’s right. You get to run in a winery.
I haven’t received confirmation on if we have to smash grapes with our feet as part of an obstacle course or something. Either way, this is pretty cool in and of itself.
You get more than enough hill work in for the week.
As I said, this is the hardest course in the Hardest Cider Run series. So, get out there and challenge yourself! Tackle “The Hill” and be rewarded for it.
Personally, for this being the toughest course, I think participants at Biglerville should get a free case of hard cider. It’s the least they can do!
