Also, make sure to set smaller goals that you can work on along the way that will help you to reach your bigger goal.

When you have set your specific goal and broken it down into smaller goals, you are then ready to make a plan for how you are going to reach the smaller goals to work towards the bigger goal. For example, if your goal is to build more muscle mass, then your plan may be to schedule when you are going to do weights, you may also plan for taking supplements and other things that can help.
