Looking for an event the whole family can enjoy? Then, you have to check out the Double Bubble Run taking place in Fairfax, VA and Frederick, MD.
This is the kind of fun run that’s for the kids – and those who are kids at heart (like yours truly). And as a runner myself, I definitely want to get my little ones involved in the sport one day. While my daughter is too young, this is the perfect even for me and my son.
They have two races this year. The first takes place in Fairfax, VA at Van Dyck Park on Saturday, August 11 from 12 pm to 4 pm. The second race is in Frederick, MD at Crumland Farms on Saturday, September 8 from 10 am to 3 pm.
If you’re in the area around those dates, please join me and my son for the Double Bubble Run in Frederick. That’s close to my current town in Gettysburg, PA.
Let me show you what you’ll be missing if you don’t!
Get everyone outside and off their phones
These days, you hardly see anyone without a phone in their hands. Their necks are bent over looking down into the social media abyss.
Well, forget all that for a few hours. Get outside with your family and head over to the Double Bubble Run. If you’re not in the area, take a road trip.
As parents, it’s our duty to give our children the chance to be active. Let them be kids and run around. This is a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your little ones in a fun atmosphere.
So, put on your running shoes (that pair you probably left in the closet after you promised yourself you’d pick up running in 2018) – and get the heck out there!

It’s a good time with no pressure to finish (plus there’s bubbles)
Bubbles. Need I say more? Well, for my son he’s sold on that alone.
But, look it’s not a tough race. So, you don’t need to worry about running 20 miles here.
As the Double Bubble Run website says:
Is the race hard?
No, that’s no fun! Hard races aren’t fun. Hard races are hard! We are a fun race with lots of Bubbles, Foam, Colors and Obstacles. The DOUBLE BUBBLE RUN is the best way to be crazy with friends and family. You won’t be timed, so there is no pressure to get it done. You can repeat a station as many times as you want.

How long is the run?
The run is approx. 1 mile long, so anybody can do it. Since the run is developed for ages 2 and up we have some stations designed for younger children AND for older children. You can choose which level would be better for you.
So, there you have. Not only is the race not hard, it’s not long either.
Not to mention the fact that your kid(s) will be tired – on a Saturday night. Can you say early bedtime?
Oh yeah, they have a Fun Zone too
This might excite my son more than the race! The Double Bubble Run also has a Fun Zone for children 2 and up.
Get this – the race ends and leads you right to the Fun Zone. It’s described as a “separate area full of fun rides and activities for the whole family.”
What does the Double Bubble Run’s Fun Zone include? Well let’s see. The list is a full one with:
- Bounce houses
- Goat walk
- Super hill slides
- Duck race
- Quad bikes
- Trike track
- Tire crawl
- Toddler water blob
- Games and more
Again, this is an awesome summer event for the entire family. This is the type of event you take a road trip for or add to the list for your family vacation. However, if you happen to live in the area, you just better show up. It’s as simple as that!
