Make a Shopping Budget

This is always nice and easy – making a shopping list may seem like a foregone conclusion to many people, but plenty more of us end up going out and shopping on an empty stomach – and end up bringing back more than we bargained for!  Plan out exactly what you need, and when for – and you’ll have a good idea of how much you’ll end up spending before you shop.

Go Off-Brand

Never be afraid to go off-brand!  Straying from big name brands that charge 50% or more on top of in-store alternatives is no longer a stigma – and what’s more, many, many, off-brand items really stand up to the big names – and you’ll be saving yourself wads of cash by making the switch.

Surveys and Cashback

While it can take a little time to make up some serious cash, online surveys, forums and cashback sites are a great way to claim back a little at a time for minimal time investment.  Search for apps on your smartphone and sites online such as Top Cashback, Swagbucks or even YouGov – and providing you have the time to put in, you can build up genuine money over time by just answering questions and claiming cash back from purchases you’ve already made.

Don’t be Afraid to Look for Deals

Everyone loves a bargain or two – and coupons have never been more rife!  Online services such as Wowcher and Groupon help cut the cost of everyday living, days out and more besides – and there’s little investment needed from you.  Save money on groceries, days out, clothing and more.

Take Control of Your Finances

If you’re serious about your financial health, you should make an effort to keep it in check for a few hours each and every day.  It can be as simple as keeping a note or two or a spreadsheet on the expenses you’re watching go out – every little helps! For those in need of a little extra support, debt advice is always available online and via phone, too.

Sell Your Old Stuff!

We might all have sentimental attachments to some of the clothes and items we’ve bought over the years, but selling your possessions via eBay, Shpock, Gumtree or Amazon has never been easier.  Sign up for free and you set the prices – sell old clothes, unwatched DVDs, the works – you’ll be surprised as to how much of a return you could get on some sales!

Make it With Meters

Many people are able to save stacks of money on a daily basis by opting into energy meters.  For electricity, prepayment meters allow you to top up with a prepaid ‘stick’ via your local newsagents – meaning that once you run out of electricity, all you have to do is top up again.  No more scary bills! Water meters, too, are a great idea – only ever pay for the water you use – it’ll also encourage you to be more responsible with the amount of water you put down the plughole on a daily basis!  Get in touch with your energy and water suppliers to learn more.

Go Freelance

Have you got an untapped talent for writing, drawing, making music or otherwise?  Finding yourself with plenty of free time and in need of regular money? Websites such as Fiverr allow freelance artists and professionals to earn a little bit of money on quick, easy jobs – all of which can be completed from day to day.

Be Rewarded

If you’ve got a credit card or if you shop with the same stores and brands on a regular basis, you may be missing out on some loyalty points and credit without ever realizing it.  Rack up the points on store cards or claim some serious cash back on the right credit card deals – it may be time to switch providers!
