Isle of Palms things to do

Isle of Palms is a small town on the barrier island of the same name, around 15 miles from downtown Charleston. For generations, the beautiful beaches of the island attract thousands of locals and visitors from other areas. Nature, serenity, and beach fun with lots of possible activities are the best recommendation for visiting the Isle of Palms. 

Foreign visitors need to get US ESTA approval. This administrative grant is part of the Visa Waiver Program for counties that are in that relationship with the US. It is recommended that you submit the ESTA application before the planned travel so that you do not miss on your vacation.

Isle of Palms SC weather 

South Carolina has excellent weather throughout the year, with mild winters, warm spring and fall periods and hot summers. Most east coast tourist hotspots attract tourists in the summer. The same thing applies to the Isle of Palms when you can expect large crowds on the beach. If you do not want to enjoy water sports and leisure on the beach, all other seasons can be great for sightseeing and enjoyment in the peace and quiet of an Atlantic Ocean waterfront, and long walks on the boardwalk.

Isle of Palms county park 

An increasing number of visitors demanded better beach access, and finally back in 1996 county park was opened. Besides sand and the ocean, guests can now enjoy in children's playground, dog park, sand volleyball court, picnic and grill areas, outdoor showers, and boardwalks with accessible ramps. Beach also has an active lifeguard duty, so you pretty much do not have to leave your beach chair.

Restaurants near Isle of Palms in South Carolina

With much of the economy reliant on tourism, Isle of Palms is swarming with great restaurants. The mixture of different cuisines ensures that everyone can find something for themselves. Places Like Coconut Joe offer dining for the entire family on the beachfront with live music. Morgan Creek Grill also has beautiful views. They offer a Lowcountry menu with shrimps, scallops, and flounder. 

Southern cuisine and fresh fish are available at the Boathouse, while Coda del Pesce is an Italian restaurant on the Front Beach. For beer lovers, The Dinghy has exciting and diverse offerings on top of great food, spacious porch, and live music.

Paradise found Isle of Palms 

The main attraction of the island is the beach. White sands, mighty ocean, and gorgeous sunsets on the Isle of Palms look like paradise on earth. You can just sit back and relax, soaking the natural beauty or there are plenty of other options. There are numerous water sports like banana boat, paraglide, or jet-ski. You can rent a boat, from dual consoles to deck models. There are other attractions nearby, like visiting The Barrier Island Eco Tour and salt marsh ecosystem. Historic downtown Charleston is another option or visiting Patriots point and Maritime Museum with WWII warship USS Yorktown.

Isle of Palms fishing

Isle of Palms is a small piece of fisherman heaven. For the onshore fisherman, there is a large variety of fish like flounder, crevalle, redfish, and tarpon. There are many guided charter fishing trips where you can go big game fishing for tuna, barracuda, king mackerel, and other bigger fishes. Locals claim that you can catch up to 10 species of fish in one trip. The fish species you can catch vary throughout the year.

The best time for catching sea trout is in the spring and fall. Red and black drum and whiting are also easier to catch in that period. Hot summer months are best for baitfish, crab, and shrimps, and the advice for summer fisherman is to go out at dawn when the water temperature is lower.

To make your final preparations for visiting Charleston and nearby Isle of Palms, make sure you are filling out an ESTA form as soon as you start planning. Depending on your answers on the form, the administration will grant you permission that is valid for two years. When you become eligible to visit the US, you can spend up to 90 days traveling this vast and beautiful county. The us esta application is an online process and requires a small fee. There is an alternative process that includes going to the US embassy in your country and asking for a visiting Visa.

Bottom line

Just 15 miles from historic also popular tourist hotspot Charleston, you can find a beautiful long sandy beach on a well-arranged public space with piers, boardwalks, and other beach infrastructure. There are food and drink stand, and plenty of quality restaurants nearby. After a long day at the beach, you can enjoy exploring critical historic sites like Fort Moultrie on the nearby Sullivan's Island, or downtown Charleston with its well-preserved architecture and laid-back style.
