Talk to your boss

There is only one place to begin, and this is by talking with your boss.

Yes, you may feel incredibly nervous about doing so, but really what have you got to lose?

Talk to your boss and explain that you have not had a pay rise in ‘x’ amount of years now. Do not go into the conversation with a negative attitude.

Instead, come armed with the reasons why you deserve a pay raise.

Consider moving onto a different pay structure

There are a number of different industries whereby various payment schemes exist, so it is certainly worth looking into this further.

You may need to move to another company in order to take advantage of this but you certainly won’t need to switch careers.

Plus, you may even find that your boss is willing to switch your pay structure, especially if it is performance related.

The real estate industry is a good place to start when looking at examples. 100 real estate commission enables employees to take home everything they earn in terms of sales.

This may be more attractive to you if you are a high performer. In terms of the construction industry, you may want to move to price work, i.e. you are paid based on what is achieved per day rather than being given a set wage.

Look for other revenue channels in your current domain

Last but not least, another way to make more money without switching careers is to look for ways that you can extract more money from your current career through different avenues of work.

Blogging is a great example of this. It is likely that you have a lot of knowledge to share about the industry you operate in. Why not blog about this and turn it into a money-making venture?
