After the holidays have passed, many people make it a point to consciously be more active and healthy in the New Year. While this can be difficult to maintain with other daily commitments such as work, family, friends, etc., it is possible to achieve with enough dedication and commitment.

Change up your Diet

In order to reap the full benefits of living a more active lifestyle, making adjustments to your diet is hugely beneficial to getting those results. Even making little changes such as cutting out bread and/or pasta can make a large difference.

If you’re interested in completely committing yourself to a diet, one of the most popular diets in 2017 and going into this year is the Ketogenic diet. In case you’re unfamiliar with the Ketogenic diet, here is a complete guide on what it requires and what the benefits can be. With the Ketogenic diet, there are great recipes available that make it possible to enjoy eating healthy.

Use the Gym Connected through your Company

One of the benefits many full time employees get is access to a gym connected through your work. Whether it’s in your work building or a local athletic club, you should take full advantage of this whether you decide to go before work, during your lunch break or after work. Many people decide to get their workout in during their lunch hour as it’s a great way to change up your day and give yourself a mental break.

Find a Partner

If you want to start exercising during your lunch hours, having a colleague as your gym partner is a great way to keep yourself motivated and continuously go back to the gym. Not only does a partner help keep you committed but it also has been shown to make you work harder at the gym. If you’re unable to find a colleague available, look for a friend or a family member who is interested in accomplishing the same goals that you have.

Always be Prepared

Packing a gym bag with all the necessities for a successful workout at the gym seems like a no brainer, but surprisingly, many people forget to do this. This tends to make a huge difference as to whether people go to the gym at all.

This is especially important if you plan to go during your lunch hour. Having all the necessities packed such as a change of socks, trousers, a clean shirt, and toiletries will make your transition back into the office as easy as possible.

Do Different Forms of Exercise

It’s easy for anyone to get bored and lose their motivation if they’re doing the same kinds of exercise day after day. Mixing up your workouts is a key way to keep yourself interested. This can be accomplished by signing up a workout class like spinning or yoga.

If you’re interested in getting involved with running, mix up your run by skipping the treadmill and opt for a run on a trail instead.

My wife and I get up and run at 5:30 in the mornings. We are both early retired and FI but we still set the alarm and run with friends. None of them have a 9 t0 5 but all of us keep the same run time we set when we did and we had to be at work by 8AM. Like you said above the group keeps us accountable and the social aspect makes it more fun when it is like single digit windchill!
