Health Benefits

There is only one place to begin, and this is with the health benefits that are associated with biking to work every day. Of course, you will benefit from a great cardio workout, which will keep your fitness up and help you to maintain a healthy weight. Not only this, but biking will tone and strengthen your muscles, as well as improving your cardiovascular function. There is also evidence to suggest that biking can reduce the risk of cancer while also acting as an effective treatment for arthritis.

Start Your Day Off The Right Way

Biking to work will give you a great boost of energy. You will feel ready to take on everything that work throws at you. You will have a higher level of enthusiasm and motivation for your normal daily activities. You may be a bit worried about biking to work in the early hours of the morning, especially in winter when it is dark. However, you can always get some bike lighting to make sure it’s a safe trip. You can always head to OutboundLighting.com for some great options!

Not only this, but it is important to consider the fact that biking can reduce stress levels, which will be another benefit to you as you work. There have been many studies that show that exercise is effective in reducing stress levels. Therefore, by biking to work, you can get rid of the stress you have experienced the day before, ensuring you are always ready to take on a new day.

It’s A Great Use Of Your Time

Another advantage associated with biking to work is that you will use your time more wisely. We all know how fast paced modern life is today. If you find that you don’t have enough hours in the day to exercise, biking to work is the answer. After all, you have to make your way to work in any case. This is ideal for those who do not have the time to go running after work or head to a gym.

Save Money

Last but not least, another benefit associated with biking to work is the fact that it can save you a considerable sum of money. After all, if you usually drive, you will not have to pay for gas. If you use public transportation, it is likely that the expense will be even greater. With a bike, the only cost you have is the initial outlay of the bike — you won’t have any on going expenses.

From the many health benefits to the amount of money you will save, it is not hard to see why biking to work is something that everyone should consider. Give it a try, you may even find that you really enjoy it too!

I love the idea of biking to work, but I can never find the motivation. Do you have any tips on how to get started? Do you think biking to work is healthy for adults 50 plus?

Hi Mohamed, I’d talk to your doctor first before starting any physical activity. I’m not a health professional, so I want to say that up front since any advice I offer here is just from my own experience or research. I’m 33, so we’re talking about a 20-year different here, but what worked for me when I started running in 2014 was starting small. Start small and build up. Depending on the distance to work, maybe you don’t cover that right off the bat. Instead, bike a little around your neighborhood and then build up from there. As I said, though, make sure to speak with your doctor or another health professional before doing this. Good luck!

I honestly like occurring longer rides and knowing that I’ve long past X numbers of miles below my personal energy. It’s also an amazing feeling to finish a hard climb and be rewarded with an extremely good descent – I’ve gotten to nearly 40mph downhill on my avenue bike before!
